Latest Adventures

September 05, 2022

It’s been a while since my last post.

It’s hard to believe September is already here. I’ve been staying busy at my full time role as well as tinkering with oddball personal projects on the side. I did recently explore the many different avenues one could take if they wanted to open an online store. Maybe I’ll do a write-up on that here in the near future. I also just very recently made my first contribution to an open open source project that’s built with Gatsby, which I’ll briefly talk about.

Why start contributing to an open source project?

My reasons for wanting to contribute to an open source project are two-fold. One reason for contributing is personal growth. I’ve been using Angular professionally for about three years or so now. If you’re a UI developer, you know the market is full of React developer positions. While I’m not actively looking for another role, I don’t think it’s a bad idea to get some React experience under my belt. My second reason for wanting to contribute to an open source project is that I want to lend my skills to a project/non-profit/etc that is making a positive change in the world. I feel that the project I will contribute to ticks both of those boxes. I’m really looking forward to this new adventure. Also, in case you’re wondering, the project is Distribute Aid.

What else?

Aside from contributing to Distribute Aid I plan on continuing with brushing up on my vanilla JavaScript knowledge, continue learning more about Angular/RxJS/TypeScript/etc at my full-time role, and…idk. I think I need to upgrade to Fedora 36 at some point, I’ll have to check 35’s eol. I’ve also been wanting to learn a backend language/framework. I’ve got some experience working with .Net and C#, but, I’ve been thinking about sticking with JavaScript and playing with Koa or NestJS. I’m really unsure at the moment. Time will tell.

Until next time. Thanks for reading my shenanigans.

Byeeeee
